Part III: Fear, the insurmountable mountain?

Today I feel utterly helpless, close to tears actually. Maybe I am indulging in self-pity? I will never truly know. We are in a time of pause, our daily mind-numbing routines put on hold. This may or may not be temporary, only time will tell. Then the wave of self-pity passed and an all encompassing clarity took hold.

We have focused on all the disastrous effects of the virus and have generally forgotten to pay attention to the positives that are coming out of it. For those of you that like to jump onto the naysaying soapbox take a breath and note that I am not saying ignore what is happening. Here are some of the positives that I am personally experiencing
*We are breathing much cleaner air now that the number of vehicles on the roads has drastically reduced. That is a good thing
*Wild-life is flourishing with minimal interference from us who think we are the top of the food chain and therefore everything else is at our mercy
*Now we only go out when we truly must and for those of us that have been affected by traffic, it now takes much less time. In a way our efficiency has been increased for we have to think about what is truly needed and then get it. Not wandering about because “oh well, never know what I may find in there”
*My own quality of sleep has been drastically improved. There is a car wash that had morphed into a regular night-club in my neighborhood. This hang-out place would blare music until well past 6:50 am when I would be getting the children ready for school. There is utmost silence in the night and I find I am sleeping much better.

This culture of fear that we live in is quite deadly, no good can come out of it except for those that benefit from fear-mongering. As hard as it may seem in these dreadful times, try and find a little slice of calm for yourself in the day. Little by little we shall overcome those that feed off our fear and send them back to the depths of whatever they crawled out of.

By the way I am a small business owner, so yes I do know the costs of the virus first hand. Sales have diminished at avalanche-like speeds and I am worried about the future of my own endeavor and others at large.
Let me know in the comments below if you have any positive outcomes that you would like to share.
